Trust

Okay, it’s going to have to be a short post tonight. I have hit a wall.

Tonight, my daughter came over, we had pizza and watched 2 movies. The second movie was called “Trust” and stars Clive Owens. I am having trouble processing the movie.

It concerns a 14 year old who meets a sexual predator on the net and ends up meeting with him. The movie is about the different relationships and dealings of the Mother, Father, and the daughter before, during, and after. It was rough material and I just am having difficulty with it.

It was very serious and something I am glad I didn’t watch alone. My daughter is the Dr. (PhD) counselor and she said it was a hard one.

I am currently reading Buckwheatsrisk’s online book about abuse and recovery. I was so able to put myself more into her shoes and feel the horribleness of what I now know she went through.

Anyway, the movie wore me out, so I can’t do a full post tonight and nothing light-hearted is going to work.

So, I will drop a clip here of the movie and just ask that your comments flow as normal. You are such good people and I always feel better after you talk.

Namaste,
Scott

Scott… you know I avoid “heavy” when at all possible. Perhaps because I’m an intense feeler, or perhaps because “real” life can get heavy way too often for comfort, so I reach for any and every light-hearted opportunity within my grasp.

My daughter says she likes to watch intense drama because it makes her feel better about her life (point well taken). For me, however, I carry things around with me… some things more than others. Rape, domestic violence, child molestation are just a few movie story lines that I stay away from. I would feel it, dream it (or nightmare it), live it (in fear of being in my own home) and in the end, I would wish I hadn’t put myself through all of that. No wonder you’re exhausted tonight… I would be too.

The internet has many wonderful uses… like communicating with you and blogging with my friends 😀 However, it is a gravely dangerous world and has proven time and time again a force not to be reckoned with.

Today, kids start using technology way too young. We encourage its use in the elementary grades. Many of my students had iPhones & Facebook profiles as young as 2nd and 3rd grades (crazy!!) It’s turning into a monster and there are certainly no easy fixes (if it can be fixed at this point).

In the meantime, I think I’ll stick with Legally Blonde, Mulan, and Letters to Juliet… at least I know I’ll sleep like a baby tonight 😀

    Hugs!!

I think that’s a bit of why I wanted the comments left to all of you.
Marisa, I think I needed to watch the movie. I don’t watch ones like that very often.
I would much rather watch a gory zombie film (The Walking Dead, for instance) because I can
compartmentalize that into the “right, like that’s gonna happen” part of my brain. Movies like
“Trust” do happen and those bother me a lot. And, for me, it didn’t end “right” though it ended like it really would. So thanks again. It helped.

Regardless of all else, thanks to You Tube, I can now go to sleep as it gave me about an hour of “Tom and Jerry”, “Road Runner”, “Bugs Bunny”, and “Winnie the Pooh”
      Night all

Abuse is far too familiar for me, at least it was not sexual in nature, but quite difficult to move past. But I believe for the most part, I have. Netflix has it on streaming. I’ll give it a go.. Indy films are usually very thought provoking. Hopefully I’ll have some to share. Thanks for sharing your load. It’s lighter when we share.

Yes, I imagine you will have something to share. I suppose I should say it was well done in that I was hooked and bothered the entire movie.

My darn wireless DVD player needed to download and install an update, which only took a few minutes. Then I had to reconfigure my wireless network settings, which took a while. When I finally started the movie streaming I thought I would surely fall asleep from the earlier frustration just getting it to stream. But it got my attention, and profoundly so! I think within 5 minutes of starting to watch the movie I felt and heard every breath I took.. Although it made me feel uncomfortable, I was glued to the story and character study within it. Oh how I wish there had been such a film when I was growing up. I suggest every parent of a young daughter watch this film, and then give it to their daughters to watch with one or two of their closest friends. Times being as they are, this film should be required viewing. Predatory actions are a fact of the interconnected lives we lead in cyberspace and in real time as well. Just because it wasn’t a bonafide boyfriend/suitor manipulating her does not mean it doesn’t happen everyday in schools, malls and elsewhere. You could never in a million words get a young woman to begin to comprehend what they are up against in this sex-on-steroids world we live in. This film accomplishes that task both tastefully and poignantly. In fact I believe it would be a powerful lesson for females regardless of age.

I think some of the additional pain and discomfort the father experienced was due to his role in perpetrating the youth/sex paradigmn, via his job as an advertising executive. Trust was betrayed in so many forms during the telling of the story.

We all play a role in it. And it is our duty as members of society to let advertisers know when we object to their ads, by using the power of our financial, verbal and written vetos to their unaceptable practices. It may only be a rock in the pond, but even one rock has the power to create change, one
ripple at a time. Thank you
for telling us about the film. I hope it makes a difference in the lives of those who watch it.
