Something I Noticed

Tonight is going to be another one of those “short” posts.

I don’t want to talk to you about important things like world politics, geothermal engineering, or how mom makes her famous apple cobbler.

Tonight, I just want to point out something I found that is quite interesting to me. Of course, anyone who knows me well knows that “interesting” to me could be almost anything. Well, I was playing around with the stats page for this blog the other night.

I noticed that my post on the Minotaur Haiku and Poem from back in July had been viewed again. I remembered seeing this once or twice before, too. So, I clicked on one of the parts of that information and it brought up a graph of that particular post.  In fact, it brought up an entire page about that one post.

The background on this post was that I joined http://www.fiverr.com.  This is a website in which you offer services for $5 and post what you will do.  Mine, mostly, dealt with writing.  One of the “gigs” (they call each job that) I agreed was to write a Haiku and a three stanza poem about any clean subject.  That was the first gig ordered.

I was asked to do this about a meeting in a cornfield maze with a robotic minotaur.  I had so much fun doing that!  To me, it proved I could write both on anything!  I sent the results in (I still retain the rights), got my payment and moved on.

However, I posted the two on this blog on July 3, 2012.  Since then here is what has happened: (As of Friday Night – tonight 11:05pm)

The post has been viewed a total of 524 times

It has been viewed at least once every single day, except for 3 days.

It’s highest day was Sept 21 at 19 views.

There were 7 days with more than 10 views each.

There have been 35 days in which the post was viewed more than on its first day of July 3rd.

There were several other little items listed, but those were the highlights.

I found it interesting because the subject matter wasn’t anything high priority and it is just a weird subject to start with.  Anyway, I hoped you might find it as interesting as I did and, perhaps, have a thought as to the reason this has taken off like this.  I mean, it is not the equivalent of going viral on YouTube, but it is the highest viewed post on my blog (the only thing higher is my home page).

So, let’s finish up with two things:

First, why do you think it has gone this high?

Second, to those of you who are reading this post, if you will turn in a suggestion through the comments here by Monday, October 29, 2012 at 12:00 Midnight Central, I will – without cost – do the same thing (my “gig”) for any clean subject you ask for and post it on Wednesday morning’s post.  I will try the first 3 suggestions I get.  Sounds like fun to me.

Okay, stump me!  I will give you credit if you do that, too, it’s only fair!!!

Namaste,

Scott

I read lots of books, from mythology retellings to literary fiction and I love to reread books from childhood, this is a place to voice my thoughts for fun. I also like to ramble about things such as art or nature every now and again.
