Limb from Limb
“See, Daddy, there are gnomes and trolls and hobbits and…” Sarah squealed with delight.
Ted looked at the huge tree. It had been awhile since he had used his imagination enough to “see” something like the creatures Sarah saw in the branches and limbs. He looked harder, squinting a bit. He actually sweated with effort for about five minutes before shrugging.
“Sorry, Sweetheart, I just don’t see them there.”
“Maybe I can help?” The wooden gnome coughed loudly to the staring father.
Sarah clapped her hands and squealed again, even as her father hit the ground in a dead faint.

Yes that is why grown ups don’t believe in gnomes, they always faint and then forget all about it.

I can see some sort of gnome, up on the right. I’m sure that would kick-start the man’s imagination again.

Fun story! Those wooden gnomes can show up when you least expect it. I like that Sarah saw the creatures right away, but Ted had to be shown.

This made me chuckle. Poor daddy will never look at a tree the same way … that is, when he awakens from his faint. lol. ps: Thanks for providing this ugly, gnarled tree/photo, Scott.via Indira.

And this is a delightful story. I guess Ted will have to learn to see the world a bit differently!
