The Question Remains…

Wish the views on my blog were like this!!!

Have you ever looked at something and thought, “Yeah, okay,” and then thought about it a lot and said, “Now, wait a minute”?   Here’s one for you:

I was checking my stats late last night early this morning and latched onto something that has only happened once before  and that one beat this one silly, however, this one has me more stumped.

My views for yesterday’s post were 188.  Now, for me, that’s overwhelmingly wonderful.  I have had a 150 and the record of 726, so this comes in 2nd.  So, as with the other one, I began looking to see why this happened.  Inquiring minds and all that…

Anyway, looking at my stats page, I noticed that the hugest (word?) “most huge” doesn’t sound better (lol), anyway, the largest portion of the views went to my home/archive page, which was 106.  The bulk of the rest was for Five Sentence Fiction and Friday Fictioneers, which makes sense to me.

What didn’t make sense was that, although it said 106 views went to my home/archive page, it stated I only had 54 visitors who gave the 106 views.  That makes no sense to me as it means that nearly everyone, on average, visited my home/archive page twice!  I may be dense, but that makes very little sense to me.

I can see why a few people might go to my home/archive page 2-3 times through error or doing something else and coming back, but that many?

I remember several other bloggers stating that they didn’t like the new stats page because of the views vs visitors calculations seeming off a bit.  I simply want to know because I wanted to see what I could do to up my views and that just didn’t help at all.

Well, I will finish with something(s) totally different.  The first is a new YouTube Evian commercial clip.  It has already gone viral with more than 38 million hits in this short amount of time.

I liked the rollerskating babies better.  It has over 68 million hits to date.

The second thing is a clip from the David Letterman show.  The gentleman being interviewed was a news anchor from Bismark, ND.  His first day on the job, the very first thing he said were two swear words (he didn’t know he was even on camera yet) and the place fired him.

I don’t think he should have been fired.  Do you? Big controversy right now.

Anyway, enjoy.  I love you all.

Namaste,

Scott

Just catching up on back posts and saw this. I average about 200 views a day but only about 65 visitors. Then when I go to spam each day there is always another 8-10 are they in my visitor count in stats… I am confused and not blonde.. trying to figure out how to reach more readers.

There are a lot of ways to reach new readers. One thing I have found to help is to post detailed profiles on LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook. Then, make your posts automatically update those three (WP helps with that!). People will begin to look and slowly add to your following. I believe that I have about 150 followers on Twitter and LinkedIn. I have about 200 people on Facebook who, at least, know I am posting each day.

          Becki,
I am planning to visit my son in Portland in July. Is it at all possible I could get to meet you then? Your husband, too, if he would like. Perhaps, lunch.

I will consider that offer. I am not certain what part of town he lives in, but I will figure out how to meet you somewhere. I don’t know how your hours work. If you wish to discuss it more, please send me your email at bookman232@yahoo.com and I will send you back my more private email.

Did you ever figure out the stats thing? I have a feeling someone — or maybe one or two people — visited numerous times. Who knows why. I also wonder if maybe every time someone views your post in email form (which I usually do), it gets counted. This would mean that when I open your email but don’t get around to reading it quite yet, then open it up again later, it gets counted twice. Of course, I don’t know whether or not wordpress can see when you open the email … i’d like to know.

I don’t know. I am not sure how to even start to figure it out. When I have a chance, I may look around the forums and through Google some more.
      It’s a mystery!!!

Yesterday was a “peak” day for me. The awards posts seem to attract a number of viewers for some reason. I also had someone reblog one of my older posts the night before, and that pulled in a number of new viewers.

But there does seem to be a disconnect between the number of visitors and what they’re viewing. I’ve also noticed days when the views might be “83,” but the country count only adds up to “79.” I still like the idea that folks at the International Space Station are viewing but not getting counted on the map. 😉

I’m far too blonde to figure this stuff out. I have noticed though that when another blogger is giving out an award of which I am the recipient, I will then see that they show up on my stats more than usual that day presumably because they came to collect my URL and then again to tell me about the award. Don’t know if that could be one of the reasons, but it does not/would not apply to 150 extra hits. It’s like I said, blonde 😉

I don’t care much about stats at all as it’s confusing and I get confused very easily. The blonde thing you know. LOL! Love the first video. So cute! Thanks for sharing Scott. 🙂 *hugs*

I’ve got four blog sites in order to capture a potential larger audience since I’ve found people do have a preference in what site they’re willing to follow someone. Anyway a similar thing happen when I posted my enceavor for Lillie McFerrin’s FSF prompt of WORDS, and after a week I had received 4times as many comments than ever before. Why I asked? And after some thought I figured it had been the topic and more important what I had to say there.
So I think the reason for your ‘SPIKE” in the number of hits had to be the topic you wrote about.

I hope that is true. But, my problem is that the stats showed the increase to be on my home page which is fine, but according to it people were going to my home page multiple times that same day, many people, many times. I just don’t get it.
