What it’s all about: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week I will post a one word inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate will write a five sentence story based on the prompt word. The word does not have to appear in your five sentences, just use it for direction.

This week: View

Final Viewing

By Scott L Vannatter

Jeremiah could not believe the image of himself as a two-year-old cooing to his mother who was smiling and loving each minute; he missed her so when she died before he graduated high school.

The imaged blurred and Jeremiah stood in awe as he saw himself as a twelve-year-old at his own birthday party; his friends were there and all of them were having a great time sharing this particular day of his life and eating cake and ice cream all afternoon.

The image changed again to one in which he had borrowed his father’s car to take Lessia to the school dance, but he saw himself driving past the school and into an overgrown hedge-covered lane where he pulled to the side and smiled at Lessia as she began unbuttoning her blouse slowly.

He turned his eyes and looked back at the light behind screaming that this was not the place to be showing this scene and how sorry he was and now it was too late to do anything.

The voice was calm and low, speaking with love dripping on each word as it began, “Jeremiah, there is no condemnation nor judgment here; rather, this is merely a replaying of your life so that you can put things together and understand why it all had to happen as it did so that things would turn out best for all concerned”; this brought a light of comprehension into Jeremiah’s mind and he returned his eyes to his “lessons” once more, this time tears of happiness began to flow.
