Five Sentence Fiction – FSF – “Locked” – PG13

Five Sentence Fiction – Locked

What it’s all about: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week I will post a one word inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate will write a five sentence story based on the prompt word.

The word does not have to appear in your five sentences, just use it for direction.

This week: LOCKED

Read my story, then click on the pic above to go to the list of the rest!!!

“Uncle Elbert”

By Scott L Vannatter

Uncle Elbert is weird; you need to remember this; I had heard it so often, that I said and thought it without it passing through my conscious mind.

Uncle Elbert lives in a castle-mansion with 237 rooms, 9 of them kitchens, 14 of them bathrooms, and only 1 of them locked; that room became a fixation for me from the time I was 8 years old and up into adulthood; I would dream of what treasures were behind that locked door; I would obsess, if truth be known; I understand that and it explains everything.

Uncle Elbert was the only one who had a key to that lock and that only he had the combination to the door behind the lock and only he had the pass card to the electronic door behind that one; it bothered me more than I care to admit that I hated Uncle Elbert because of that; I learned it early and it tore at me from all directions; I became, oh yes, I already said it: obsessed.

Uncle Elbert did not know that I spent 12 years following him around and sneaking into areas when he was not around to get a copy of that key, to find that combination, and to duplicate the pass card so that I could, finally get into that room and find:  a broken dolly, a train set with no tracks, 2 old Christmas trees with mildew, a four-poster bed with a broken frame, and a fork.

Uncle Elbert is weird.

carly books

I read lots of books, from mythology retellings to literary fiction and I love to reread books from childhood, this is a place to voice my thoughts for fun. I also like to ramble about things such as art or nature every now and again.
