Five Sentence Fiction – Limitless

What it’s all about: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week I will post a one word inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate will write a five sentence story based on the prompt word.

The word does not have to appear in your five sentences, just use it for direction.

This week: Limitless

Read my story, then click on the pic above to go to the list of the rest!!!

FSF – Five Sentence Fiction – “Limitless” PG

By Scott L Vannatter

Simon sat atop the hill overlooking the vastness which was Los Angeles and its smog-ridden, littered “city of Angels”.

His eyes, so rich a blue as to be peaceful and deep, closed as he began to focus the energy of his newly-awakened mind to the situation he had decided would be his foundation stone of recognition.

It began as a small rumble, almost like distant thunder, and built up to a tumultuous roar, that was both deafening and frightening, before the shaking began and the true changes erupted into existence, showing the vastness of preplanned thought.

Bits of grime, sewage, trash, rust, oil-waste, sludge, pollution, and poisons lifted into the sky over the city forming a huge sphere before crushing together into the size of a basketball and hurtling toward the Sun at nearly the speed of light where it would be burned to ash by the fires of Sol.

This, happening all over the world at the same time in both city and country, land and ocean, would be the mark of showing a new and pristine world the power of a 100% awakened and focused mind – limitless.

I like the idea of this happening, the cynic in me tells me that we would still be prone to make the same mistakes, well written and I hope this is part of a bigger story.

I have thought about making a larger story, darker, of course. I can’t decide whether to make it something I try to sell or put it on the blog in several parts… thoughts?

Yikes. That is one enlightened mind! lol. If only we good people could develop drone-like power on the minds of the evil. Just make them stupid and powerless… I’ve had cool mind experiences but can’t even move a pencil. Have you tried that? hahaha.

I have moved a pencil, but it was by using my mind to move my hand! lol…sorry.
No, no luck with telekinesis, however, have had great luck with the power of intention and creating with the mind.

    Nice and strong

Only successful if the survivor is Simon alone! 🙂

We have already the experience of Sodom and Gomorrah!

Sorry for being so pessimist! I remember a song that goes:

“I do not believe even to myself!!” 🙂

I reckon your writing is beautiful and terrible, I liked it!

    Thank you for sharing

  • […] My last FSF (Five Sentence Fiction) for Lillie McFerrin was on the topic “limitless”.  The story was, of course, fiction, and it concerned itself with someone who was able to render a huge miracle because he was able to focus 100% of his mind.  My understanding is that we use about 10% of our mind most of the time, and for a lot of that time we don’t focus 100% anyway.  And, look what we accomplish: everything in this world that was made by man started out as a thought.  Thinking does, indeed, lead to creation.
