“Sailing Away”
Scott L Vannatter – 100 words
Jensen throttled the boat’s motor and cut effortlessly through the choppy waters of the harbor. In the distance he saw old Liberty, the remnant of what was once a great nation. A nation that had been torn apart by nuclear war based, mostly, on a sad choice by the government. Who could have foreseen a third world nation that could afford to be in league with a nuclear power strong enough and crazy enough to launch at the US?
“I certainly couldn’t,” he said thinking of billions of lives lost in minutes by a mistake and a single crazy person.

As always I appreciate your link. It is scary when just a few are in charge of the many…when many have no voice. Will any place be safe? We can only hope…

It’s nice to have my faith in someone other than those who think they are in charge.

Must say that the scariest part of it that it doesn’t even require a crazy person’s mistake.. a rational thinking person can do the same …. I find that even scarier…

Well-put! Now, I am scared, too!

Dear Scott,
The world lives under the Sword of Damocles each and every day and your story emphasizes that fact very succinctly.
