“Battle Royale”
By Scott L Vannatter
The two queens walked with their agents and attendants toward each other in the open field, their regalia expressing itself in a wide circle.
They met, standing about six feet apart, eying each other up and down, both snickering under their breath at their enemy.
Rizalda, inherently wild and eccentric, could barely contain herself, the frenetic energy splaying outward from her untamed body, while Dimaldi stood stoic and silent, as much a statue as a monarch.
Without warning, Rizalda leaped forward, bringing her dagger from its sheath and toward her enemy’s heart.
The shot from Dimaldi’s derringer broke the silence, the small arm having appeared as if by magic at the first sign of the attack; a war was avoided.
