FSF – Five Sentence Fiction: Enrapture
Scott L Vannatter

Gerard kicked a rock down the empty street whereupon it deflected into the air striking a building window and shattering the crystal silicon pane.
The noise echoed down the street, hollow in its ringing reverberations.
He looked around and, though he did believe in God, he knew this wasn’t the rapture because he wouldn’t be the only one left; he would have been taken, too.
He spun around at the sound of a footstep and, hearing his name spoken; tears stung his eyes as he realized it was Henry Bowden, his life-long enemy, coming at him with a bat.
The bear hug caught him off-guard as did the tears in Henry’s eyes falling as he yelled “Thank God!” in a loving tone saved for a long-lost friend.

Cool! I’m glad that Harry decided not to be a bully. Interesting how everyone’s perceptions of the same situation can be very different. My aunt often told the story about this bully who terrorized her in elementary school. Years later, her sister encountered him and he said “oh, yes, you’re Sue’s sister. She was my girlfriend.” My aunt certainly didn’t think of it that way!
