Five Sentence Fiction – Determination

Oct 23, 2013 ~ Hosted by lillie

What it’s all about: Five Sentence Fiction is about packing a powerful punch in a tiny fist. Each week I will post a one word inspiration, then anyone wishing to participate will write a five sentence story based on the prompt word.

The word does not have to appear in your five sentences, just use it for direction.

Please read my entry below, then click —-> Here <—- for the rest of the entries.  Enjoy

This week: DETERMINATION

“Strength of Will”

By Scott L Vannatter

Joel stood precariously on the rock, stretching as full as he could until his fingertips just reached the edge.

He strained harder, sweat pouring from his entire day’s efforts in surmounting this obstacle, and by curling his hands into near talons, he gripped the surface and began the slow exhausting pull to a position in which he could bring his legs and feet into a play of friction and push himself up.

Once that new position had been achieved, Joel began the slow ascent up the high angled surface until he reached the summit and could stand proudly surveying the entire region around him.

“Joel Chion get down from there right now!”

Joel looked at his Mom with some disdain, knowing that the shed was off-limits and his seat would take a beating for it.
