Hyped Up
By Scott L Vannatter – 100 Words
The professor looked into the small pond. He then turned to address his students.
“2054, Metasa, Inc. began making the hormones now used all over the world to help combat the plague. The virus remains, its 98% fatality rate held in check by the weekly consumption of the hormone. The by-products of the process have had unforeseeable side effects until now.”
“Professor Dillon? How do we know about these side effects now?”
Professor Dillon took out a pin and pricked his finger. The drop of blood fell into the pond and the Koi went feverish attacking it.
“Because it’s begun.”

I’m thinking a nice twist on the Walking Dead – a sort of Swimming Dead. 😉 Very nice story, and a good take on the prompt.

Actually, my 2nd published story, “Sirens of the Undead” was a decent take on the Swimming Dead.

Oooooh. Quite a unique take on this week’s prompt, Scott. Sounds interesting enough to make a much bigger story out of ……..

Hi Scott,
Excellent futuristic story. Why can’t viruses ever be nice, or helpful? They must have been an invention from the dark side of life. Ron

A helpful virus? Well, there was that one in “War of the Worlds”.

Dear Scott,
Man eating koi? Does this come from GMO fish food? Gives one pause.

Dear Scott,
So, bloodthirsty koi are the downside of the plague’s cure?
Works for me. Bring on the virus.
