The above clip came with the statement that “within 5 seconds, you won’t like him. By the time he laughs, you’ll hate him.” I did on both counts, though hate is a strong word. If you watched it, you know what I am talking about.
My best friend and I eat out frequently when he is not in the fields. We talk about a lot of things, one of them is, of course, women. Our types differ a lot. One thing that is apparent on my part – I am not big into breasts. I don’t go wild over large ones. They just don’t do much for me.
As you could see in the clip, this does not seem to be the item in Venezuela. They do concentrate on breasts. I had a whole different topic in mind for this post until I watched the clip this morning and got a little hot under the collar. I don’t mind if people do things to themselves to try to increase their beauty. Tats can be very beautiful; changing a hairstyle, dyeing a different color or colors can be nice; some dieting, exercise can enhance a person’s natural beauty. I kinda draw the line at surgery. I don’t doubt that there are those few individuals who can only get better through surgery. Bariatric surgery does work when really needed. If a person is born or has an accident and becomes disfigured, I can see surgery for that. Breast cancer surgeries I can also understand. What I have issue with is the brutality that comprises even the mildest plastic surgery. I have watched the clips and films on plastic surgeries; they are horrible. The tearing, cutting, jerking of the tissues is bad enough; the liposuction is an ordeal. It is difficult even for this horror writer to watch. But, it reinforces in my mind how, nearly, medieval this practice is. Also, I watch the clips in which something goes wrong. If a breast implant should rupture, it’s just not a pretty picture and, I believe, can be dangerous.
To see women have surgery after surgery in order to “appear” beautiful is ridiculous in my mind. People are getting very spoiled and thinking that there is only one type of woman who is truly beautiful; that’s crap! Most women I know are beautiful in their own way. If we all felt more like this, think how it would affect everything.
Let me hear how you think and feel this would change everything!

I feel so sorry for young women today. It was difficult enough when I was younger to fit into a prescribed form of beauty, but despite the achievements of feminism, women are now even more sexualised and supposedly ‘perfected’.

I know someone who wants to get rid of her laugh/frown lines. I asked her, “Why bother? You’re still going to laugh and frown and the lines will just come back.”
I have always loved the quote about how scars are proof at how strong we really are (that we beat whatever caused the scar), and I think our wrinkles and other beauty issues bear a similar message.

I don’t worry too much since I “died” when I had my stroke, so however I look is fine.

I think we have to look at what prompts these women to want to change themselves so drastically and remember that it is a small percentage. Some time ago, on Madison Ave, a group of men decided what sexy is, what attractive is and basically what being a woman is. 99% of women look different to this idea that was pushed upon us with the use of advertising. The aspirational mode that makes billions for companies around the world hasn’t changed much. Women, particularly ones of this current young generation, have grown up being told you aren’t good enough and you need XYandZ to be good enough. For some of those woman, as I said a small group, this became psychologically imbedded and plastic surgery feeds something inside them. Personally, I don’t blame them. I blame the men who decided what attractive is so they could sell a few things.
Surgery is brutal. It’s not just plastic surgery. Most surgery looks rather medieval. In my own field I have worked with plastic surgeons and most of them work in the field for very good reasons. I’ve had a double mastectomy and had extensive plastic surgery myself so I could have the same breasts I had before. Most of them do wonderful work,

I won’t argue that plastic surgeons are a necessary part of many persons’ lives. You are right, mastectomies need good surgeons so that everything is done correctly. I am glad you feel your surgeons did a good job. I also agree that men, basically, started this. The time frame when this happened was when men ran most of the business world and, though that has changed somewhat, that part of the world is still mostly run by men.
Surgery is brutal. Yes, I agree. And, yes, most of the problem goes back to an embedded low self-esteem issue. I hope that as the world begins to grow in so many areas that this will be one of those that is highlighted and changed for the better.
