Article on UMC Minister

United Methodist Minister performs gay wedding – goes to trial

I am, technically, a member of the UMC.  I do not attend anymore.  I may at some point, but it is just not me right now.  I consider myself a spiritually uplifted person and I have a wonderful relationship with God; just not in church.

I grew up with the lectures and was told how wrong it is; however, the minister above is correct:  Jesus never said anything about homosexuality.  Jesus said to love your neighbor.  Jesus asked us, directed us, to help people.  Sure, the Old Testament said things about homosexuality.  Jesus was to bring in a new way, a more loving way.

Why do we have to hate others in order to be loved by God?  I know the statement:  love the sinner, hate the sin.  That’s not what’s happening either, even in the good way.  When someone proclaims something that the church is against, the people in that church don’t show their love very often at all; what they do is to put the person down and tell why he/she is so wrong and wicked and sinful.

The stress in my life is down considerably.  I have come to realize that we truly don’t need to worry; God is taking care of us.  And, it’s easier to do and to see that when we just trust God and don’t worry.  I try very hard not to rush much anymore.  Rushing gets you in trouble.  Take your time and think.  Pray – God will show you the answers; just be open to them.

This minister is someone I could sit down and talk with; I believe he is at a crucial understanding in how God would love for us to think and to be.  I agree with his choice in this instance; not just because it is his son, but because it is simply right and good to be that way.

We truly need to drop these horrible walls that separate us from a large part of the world.  Let people be.  There’s no harm in explaining your beliefs and the why behind them; however, listen to their beliefs, too, and don’t toss them.  I don’t preach anymore; I don’t try to coerce people or make them feel bad for how they believe; that is up to them as to what they choose to believe.  I simply do my thing and hope others can see by example how I choose to live my life.  They are welcome to love God in whatever way they choose to.  Even if they choose not to believe, that is their choice.

I pray for more people like this minister.  Through people’s actions like his we can find our way and understand each other and love each other.

Namaste,

Scott

I’m pleased that you’ve found a place in your life where you can find god in a way that is personal to you Scott, so that you can be in a place where there are no barriers.

Gay marriages seem to be far happier and more solid than most of the heterosexual marriages I hear about. As far as I’m concerned, if we’re lucky enough to find that one person in the world to love and who loves us back unconditionally, that’s more important than someone’s biased opinion.
