Little Building, Big Surprise

By Scott L Vannatter – 100 words

Carolyn walked the shore of the lake.  It was a decent size and had the usual drop sheet of items scattered at the water’s edge.   When she saw the building, pink and small with steps leading up to it, she stopped and stared.  The boy at her side did the same.

“Can we stay there?” he asked, obviously tired.

“Let me check,” she returned.

She walked up the steps and pushed in the door.  The smell had already reached her nose, but she wanted to be sure.  The dead had put up a good stand here.

“Sorry, need to walk.”
