Once again, it is time for Friday Fictioneers, a wonderful writing exercise in which writers compose a short (100 word +/-) story based on the prompt (see below for this week). Hosted by Rochelle Wiseoff-Fields, the exercise tests your true abilities by forcing you to choose each and every word carefully. After reading my selection below, please click > HERE < to view the rest. Enjoy!!!
The Coming Darkness
(A Carolyn Adventure – More)
Scott L Vannatter – 100 words
The road ahead was ominous, darkness closing in and the sinking sun a hazy light through the fog. Carolyn was being alert and exceptionally quiet, so different from the last few days. Since having met Jordan and Billy her life had been nearly transformed from one of depression and no hope to one filled with promise and joy. Now, half that joy was devastated and not just for her. Billy had to deal with the loss of his dad and the acceptance of a new mother he had only known for a couple of days.
His hand squeezed hers tightly.

I found this confusing. Who is Jordan?

Jordan is the man, Billy’s father. I understand the confusing part. I have stretched a bit on FF guidelines in that I have a continuing story going here instead of a complete stand-alone. Please forgive me. I am enjoying this immensely. Feel free to go to my blog page on Carolyn and read the other parts. I am, currently, creating a novella-size story that has 5 parts so far. They are listed at the end of that page.
Again, sorry,
Scott

Poignant tale of wavering emotions, with hope vying with uneasiness. “Life is a rollercoaster”…. 😉
