“We’ll be Right Back?”

By Scott L Vannatter – 100 Words

Michael picked up the portable, wireless  microphone and stepped into the crowded street.  He detested doing this assignment, but Joe was the boss and Michael did sleep with Joe’s sister.  Consequences…  He cleared his throat.

“Ladies, Gentlemen, and those who are not yet sure.  We are here on Main Street and going on behind me is the 32nd hour of the “Dance of the Apocalypse”.  As you may know, this parade started shortly after one of the citizens received a ‘message’ from beyond that said the world would end at noon today.  It is now 11:59:56 and we are not seeing…”

I love how you’ve set this up, and given Michael’s point of view and backstory so economically. And the finish is perfect.

Love the way you leave this hanging. Maybe Michael’s batteries died, or maybe he was just being a little to hasty in his assumptions. Nice tale.

Thank you. I love seeing how others see my stories; the plots they twist and the things they mention.

    Dear Scott,

I like the way you foreshadowed things to come with the use of the word Consequences. Well done. Sometimes I wish it was all fall to pieces. The world needs a reboot.

    Aloha,

I guess it didn’t matter why he was covering the event or if if he were.
