Engulf
“Lucky Day”
By Scott L Vannatter – March23, 2015
Unknown by Earth or its inhabitants, a large planetoid-sized particle was hurtling across the deep void of space on a direct collision course with our home planet.
It would take decades, perhaps centuries, but the speeding doom was inevitably on its way.
As it passed through one particular portion of the Universe, its trajectory brought it to within a few hundred thousand miles of a fairly large black hole.
The immense gravitation of the once-star engulfed the planetoid in its nearly infinite gravitational pull, jerking it from its original doom-ridden path and bringing it into its own doom in the darkness of the gravity.
Earth’s inhabitants went through their day, many cursing that it was raining so much this particular season.

very interesting story, I love those little doom stories, and the ending was brilliant!

Thanks. The idea came from a long-time-ago comic story about an alien invasion.

Thank you. The idea came from an alien invasion type comic book story I read as a kid.

Very nice take. Imaginative but has a true point about people’s behavior.

It is interesting how we can go through our day, even our life, oblivious to the big picture. Nice take, Scott.

There are probably a lot of close calls we are unaware of while we complain about trivial things. Very imaginative story with a point to it.
