About Me (The Cool Stuff)

Name:  Scott L Vannatter  Email:  bookman23@comcast.net

Note added – 2/5/2020:  Well, 5 more years has passed!  I have over 1200 posts written and have had life-changing moments.  My father passed in 2016 and my Sister passed in January of 2019. It is very interesting to look back at previous notes and see all that has happened.  It is just Mom and I now.  We both have problems with our memories.  I am taking vitamin B-12 and selenium for memory and both together seem to be working.  I play a lot on my PC as far as video games are concerned; I watch many movies and shows.  I have one more short story that is up for publishing.  I should know soon enough.  I am, right now, a beta tester for Bethesda’s Fallout 76 game (Just a new dlc/mod).  I do still work for our local library selling on Amazon and still work with Fiverr.com.  There is, likely, much more, but that’s enough for this update.

Note added – 8/20/2015:  I realized it has been 1 1/2 years since I did much of anything to update this page.  Things have happened; and, as always, some good and some bad.  I do not do the crossword puzzle business nor the IMD for Team National.  Both helped me grow some and I appreciate all that happened and all that I did.  I do still sell on Amazon for our local library.  They appreciate my work and I appreciate getting to help them in some small way.  I now have 2 great nieces!  look at my Facebook page for some of the pictures.  If you can’t see them, send me a friend’s notice.  I may ask who you are, just tell me the website or that you follow me on WordPress.  I will add you.  Finally, my father is very ill, improving though.  He takes a lot of my time (I don’t mind).  I had a disaster (my fault) with Windows 10 and lost everything including my WIP book and all my stories and ideas.  This will be a slow recovery, but I will recover!

Note added – 2/14/2014:  Happy Valentine’s Day (actually, it’s after midnight, but oh well).  The four stories I had published by Kevin Bufton are now going out of print, pretty much as of today.  It was fun while it lasted, but I am still published!  I have taken up two more pursuits now:  First, I am an IMD for Team National.  It is a business should I choose to do so with it.  After several months, I decided that, while it is a great company, the business is not for me at this time.  Second, I have purchased a bit of software and am in the process of creating crossword puzzles to sell.  I have sent 2 to the National Group for Higher Learning (or something really close to that) and both have been turned down.  However, I was given specifics on the whys, so I can try again with new information.

Note added 12/31/2013:  This has been a wonderful year.  One of my stories was not published due to lack of funds.  Currently, I have added a page to my blog about “Carolyn”.  This is a multi-part  story which takes place in a post-apocalyptic world.  Carolyn is a strong leading figure and her character keeps becoming more and more complicated.  I am enjoying this project.  To date there are many short prompted sections about her and I have written 4 parts of the longer story which I hope to publish as either a novella or a novelette in 2014.  I have reduced my blog to 4 times a week.  On Tuesday nights, I write a lengthy (1000-1500 word) section of Carolyn’s story or do a normal blog.  Wed, Thu, Fri are set up for me to do prompt writing.  I hope you enjoy; I am.

*New Note (10/2012) I am now a published author!  I have sold (signed contracts for 7 of my short stories.  I will keep you updated.  I have even been paid for 1.

I live in Middletown, IN (about 3500-4000 people)

I am divorced (twice) living now with my cat, Tamika (she was named after one of my favorite characters in the video game “Oblivion”).  In June 2013, she will be 7 .

I have worked in a lot of fields, especially, security, computers, and, lastly, teaching special education.  I have about 70 hours past my Master’s Degree.

In May of 2010 (7th, to be exact) I was at dinner in Indianapolis and suffered a hemorrhagic, 3rd nerve, brain stroke.  This one is kinda rare and is usually fatal.  I am too stubborn to give in that easily, so, with God’s help (and a host of others) I chose to remain. It totally changed my life, attitudes, and my perceptions.  I think I am better for it, but would rather have figured out another way (teach me not to listen!).

I am now considered disabled (went back to school in 2011 and made it until Feb. 2012) and stay at home doing a conglomeration of things. I :

Read, Write, Email, Play Video Games (Oblivion and Skyrim rock), have added the Video Game “Wizard101″(Online at http://www.wizard101.com).  Now, I play Minecraft (survival mode) a great deal.  I have also written some well-received Modification files to Oblivion.

I do this Blog (which I love), Play “Words with Friends” on Facebook , Do a lot of other things on Facebook, Sell Books, DVDs, Tapes, and CDs on Amazon (mostly, for the local library, but I also sell for myself and a few others), and try to figure out how to do other things I enjoy.

If you want to drop me an email, feel free, just know that I may not see it for a while as this is not my main one:  bookman232@yahoo.com.  If you do, let me know in a comment here, so I do see it sooner.

From fall of 2012 until March of 2013, I sold 7 short horror stories; 6 have been published to date (4/10/2013).  One of the stories is for sale in print on Amazon and on the Kindle – both in an anthology entitled “The Dead Sea” edited by Kevin Bufton.  There are three other anthologies like it.  They are:  “Under the Knife,  “Another 100 Horrors”, and “War is Hell”.  All are published under Kevin G. Bufton.

A current claim to fame:  My cousin, Dale Vannatter, singer.  He’s good!  Listen to him here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1sm5v6TYRs

    Hi There!
Would you be willing to participate in something we are doing for Susie Lindau on Friday morning? I am contacting as many of her followers as possible. My thought is that we all post on our own blogs on Friday with the same title, “Susie Strong”. The content would say something simple like, We are thinking of you. I haven’t known Susie for long but this blogging world is such a family. I thought it would be nice for her to see this message from as many of us as possible. Her husband is going to be updating us after her surgery. He can tell her or she can see it once she is up to it. Are you in? Thanks, Maria aka brickhousechick

I like your Spirit Scott. My old Blog was entitled Touching Spirits. But I haven’t written much in a while, though I am hearing the wheels grinding again and hope to separate the wheat from the chaff again soon. I’m a live music nut and enjoy bringing people together, to celebrate life through it. I was born with a congenital condition, Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC) which affected all four of my limbs, one hip and spine. It left me with no measurable manual dexterity and little lower leg strength. But since I came into the world this way I feel I got it easy compared to those who have had the rug pulled out from under them halfway through their journey.

I started using a power wheel chair when I was 28, (I’m now 56) when my 18 month old daughter got away from me in a shopping center parking lot. It was the best thing I ever did for myself, but it came with some interesting, yet unexpected new hurdles.

Last weekend my sister was at a convention and had a freak little accident in which her foot was smashed by someone’s chair opposite her (she’s ok now). But in order not to put the kibosh on her fun-filled weekend she decided to rent a scooter to get her through the remainder of the convention. When she returned home she called me to share the unexpected experiences she witnessed through the eyes of others and tell me she finally ‘got’ a smidgen of what I go through each and every day of my life as a differently abled member of an oftentimes inhumane humanity.

Life’s unexpected surprises bring some of our greatest tragedies, and gifts. Inclusive of years of hospitals, 15 surgeries and countless leg, body casts, leg/hand braces, physical therapy and pain I wouldn’t trade my experiences for a life absent of AMC. It has been my rock from which I have been able to see clearly and find meaning in the things in life have made it all worth living.

By living out loud we enable others to find their own voices and learn to sing!

    Thank you for sharing yours..

“Keep the faith, spread the love share the happiness.”

    Namaste’

I was told I had cancerous cells earlier this year and went through 4 surgeries; I redid my will, updated my trust for my kids and then did everything I could to visualize health, wellness, and survival. I am clear now and sure that I am here because God has something else for me to do, someone to encourage, someone else to love….Yet it’s a day to day decision to keep staying positive as there is a sense of heaviness on the earth–we have to keep seeing what we want, not what we don’t want and we have to overcome evil with good humor, good cheer, and good company. 🙂
