Engulf

“Lucky Day”

By  Scott L Vannatter – March23, 2015

Unknown by Earth or its inhabitants, a large planetoid-sized particle was hurtling across the deep void of space on a direct collision course with our home planet.

It would take decades, perhaps centuries, but the speeding doom was inevitably on its way.

As it passed through one particular portion of the Universe, its trajectory brought it to within a few hundred thousand miles of a fairly large black hole.

The immense gravitation of the once-star engulfed the planetoid in its nearly infinite gravitational pull, jerking it from its original doom-ridden path and bringing it into its own doom in the darkness of the gravity.

Earth’s inhabitants went through their day, many cursing that it was raining so much this particular season.

Vindictive

“Take It Back”

By Scott L Vannatter – March 16, 2015

“Well, you are!  You are!  You are …stupid!”

Bobby yelled at Franci as he skipped toward home.

Franci, for her part, began to shake; her eyes grew dark, and her voice grew louder as she screamed “Take IT… BACK!”

Clouds formed into almost funnels; the sky grew heavy; the electricity crackled; Bobby had time for a short squeal before he, quite literally, exploded and all grew quiet once again.

Franci looked at the tattered remains of Bobby’s clothing lying on the side walk and managed an “I told you so!” before heading back to the castle for more lessons.

Five Sentence Fiction – Spoiled – “What a Brat!” Rated PG13 – humorous

Lillie brings us, once again, “Five Sentence Fiction“.  This is a weekly flash fiction challenge in which Lillie provides a one-word prompt and we, the acceptors of the challenge, create a full story in just five sentences based on that one word.  This week’s word is “Spoiled”.  My story is below the picture.  The rest are >HERE<.  Enjoy!!!

Spoiled

“What a Brat!”

By Scott L Vannatter – March 9, 2015

I got married at 17 because my boyfriend, Sam, wanted to; I got pregnant at 18 because Sam thought it would be cool; I went to work at 2 jobs at 19 because Sam said we needed the money; we are in financial trouble because Sam thought his job was not paying him enough, so he quit.

If I say anything to Sam he ignores me and says I don’t understand; if I say something to his parents, they tell me I don’t love him enough; if I say something to my parents, they want no part of it; If I tell our friends, they tell me I am getting what I deserve.

I told Sam I wish I was smart enough to deal drugs and make all that easy money; I told Sam I wish I was smart enough to run a prostitution ring and have other people do all the work and I make all the money; I told Sam I wish I was brave enough to just kill the bad people who got in my way.

Sam started his new jobs six months ago; I turned State’s evidence last week.

I think I will like my new home in San Diego; I think I will like my new name, too.

Lillie brings us this week’s Five Sentence Fiction prompt:  Forgotten.  Mine is below; the rest are >HERE< Enjoy!

Forgotten

“Overlooked”

By Scott L Vannatter – February 26, 2015

She walks slowly and a bit unsteadily down the avenue, carrying all her worldly belongings with her, dropping her umbrella and being way too tired to retrieve it.

Her hopes and dreams have come with her; they are her only currency to make it in this bitter, dirty world.

A man steps from the shadows and approaches her, knowing all too well she is overly-tired and will not run away.

He gives her his oft-made speech about success and money and all she has to do is…

She, like thousands of almost nameless young girls disappear, their hopes and dreams a poor defense against the predators lurking and waiting.

Five Sentence Fiction – Villainous “What Evil Lurks…” Suspense – Rated PG13

Lillie brings us a new Five Sentence Fiction topic again; this week is “Villainous”.  My story is after the picture.  The rest are >HERE<.  Enjoy!!!

Villainous

“What Evil Lurks…”

Scott L Vannatter – February 10, 2015

Gerrard stalked through the forest looking intently for his prey under bush, foot, and rock.

His problem was not his intent, but his vision, as his prey lurked up in a moss-covered tree and that prey jumped him as he passed underneath the green canopy.

Hearing the sudden change in noise, Gerrard managed to turn up and draw his blade as the enemy’s dagger went for his own throat.

The blades sunk in deeply, mortally wounding both Gerrard and the surprised villainous personage.

Gerrard managed to look at the dead murderer as his own life slipped away, and he choked out a satisfied sigh knowing that, at least, he had rid the world of the Ripper though none might ever know.
