Bedtime

“Perchance to Dream ”

Scott L Vannatter – January 31, 2015

“Squeak.”

Little Johnny sat up in bed looking toward the window making the noise.

He got up, latched it again, waited three minutes for more squeaking, then got back into bed.

“Squeak!”

This time Little Johnny realized the sound was louder and came from under the bed.

Lillie brings us Five Sentence Fiction.  My entry is below; the rest are >HERE<.   Enjoy!!!

Abandon

“Alone Again, Naturally”

Scott L Vannatter – January 25, 2015

The old, dilapidated mansion groaned quietly in the silence of the centuries.

Francesca sat on the empty floor of what used to be the main ballroom and sobbed wailing tears of abandon.

She screamed and no one came; yelled and no one answered; shrieked and listened only to silence return.

“Mama, what’s that horrible screeching sound coming from the old Banston house?” said Billae Joe, her dress dragging on the dusty road and causing a small whirlwind behind her.

“Dearest, that’s the ghost of Francesca Banston, who killed her lover in a fit of rage and jealousy and was cursed by his mother to reside forever alone in that house over one hundred and fifty years ago.”

“Offering”

Finality

Scott L Vannatter – January 14, 2015

Jeckland raised her hands toward the heavens and cited the lines from the ritual she had studied for several months.

“I offer myself to the realms as a sacrifice to that which on my life I have pledged.”

The air grew still then, almost like a breath, the clouds opened up and shimmering, whirling bands of starry lights cascaded from the center, opening up and engulfing the figure of the woman, now so tiny in respect to the magnificence of the scene.

Her body began to blur, taking on the aspect of a ghost and, within minutes, she vanished entirely, the clouds drew up, and all became still once more.

After a slight hesitation, the earth at the center of where Jeckland had stood only moments before exploded into light; the illumination spread to all parts of the globe, wiping pollution, trash, and all manner of planetary desecration clean, giving the Earth a new and glorious start.

Fresh

“There’s Just One Thing”

By Scott L Vannatter – January 4, 2015

Newman sat down softly on the concrete slabs beside the portal entry to the public library.

He really could not decide whether or not to be happy, sad, angry, or depressed; he just knew that, whatever he felt, it would not be enough.

He had managed to develop the newest, freshest way to meet new women, get their attention, and ask them out with a good chance of success; happy was a good word.

In fact, he had just asked out a beautiful brunette with stunning brown eyes, long hair, full lips, and what’s more, she had said “yes” when he mentioned dinner that night; yes, happy was a good word.

His memory, however, was a bit spotty and he realized soon after they had parted that he had not only forgotten her name and number, but could not even remember the restaurant where they were to meet nor the time; yes, depressed was a good word.

Five Sentence Fiction – Glimmer – “Brave New World” PG13

Lillie brings us this week’s Five Sentence Fiction Prompt:  Glimmer – My contribution is below.  The rest are >HERE<.  Enjoy!!!

Glimmer

“Brave New World”

By Scott L Vannatter – December 21, 2014

Desirelle stepped out onto the vast alien landscape, the first astronaut to land on an Earth-like planet, and tipped her finger slightly, allowing the glimmer to issue forth from her index and glide forward in an ever-spreading glowing hue of blue.

The aura widened, covering all of the landscape within sight and beyond, blanketing the soil, curling around the rocks, causing the atmosphere itself to sparkle with intense energy.

The stones split; the dust raised into the air, spun, widened, and fell noiselessly back to the soil; and the nearby mountains shook and collapsed, rebuilding themselves into hills and plateaus.

The dervish moved more rapidly, the now-gathering wind reaching gale force, the sky darkened then lightened, water appearing to fill deeper holes created by the moving soil and dust.

After what seemed hours, things slowed and coalesced, the planet had in its entirety been remodeled and refitted for human habitation by this first visitor, a sorceress obsessed with eventual ruling over an entire global civilization.
