Special Post – I Accept an Award!

Dragon’s Loyalty Award

604044_233702650139737_2010481451_n

I got nominated for another award! This time it’s for Dragon’s Loyalty Award. I was nominated by fellow blogger and reader of this blog, Meghan! Which according to her, the Dragon’s Loyalty Award is a combination of both The Versatile Blogger Award and The Very Inspiring Blog Award.  Thanks Meghan…check out her blog > HERE <.  Meghan’s also extra special because she’s from my very own state of Indiana.  Go Hoosiers!  That also means she knows what kind of weird weather we are having right now.

Now with anything there are rules:

1. Display the Award on your site

2. Announce it with a post and link to whoever presented your award

3. Present 15 awards to deserving Bloggers.  I follow a lot of bloggers who do not accept awards, plus, I try to get newer ones brought in, so the list will be shorter and if you are not on it and wanted to be, I am so sorry…hmm…since it’s short, perhaps you can drop me a note.

4. Drop them a comment to tip them off after you’ve linked them to the post

5. Post 7 interesting things about yourself.

________________________________________

Those bloggers I will honor are:

1)   Harvesting Hecate

2)  Jean’s Writing

3)   Lillie McFerrin Writes

4)  WePoets Show It

5)  Christina Strigas

6)  Maggiegracesite

7)  This, That And The Other Thing

8)  Marina Kanavaki

9)  Kerrie Ann Salsac – Writing For Life

10)  Sheri De Grom

Well, that’s 10.  If any of you I have selected do not accept awards, then simply ignore this.  I tried to put in new blogs I have looked at and decided to follow.  I may not read you all the time, but I notice.

Now, for 7 things about myself that, at least, I find interesting:

1)  Because of the way a college professor graded the first draft of my Master’s Thesis, the word “That” is like poison to me.  I try to always go back and eliminate at least 80% of the times I have used it in a story or post.

2)  I had such a fascination with “A Charlie Brown Christmas” growing up, that, one year, I went to the woods behind our house and chose a tall weed and decorated it for my own Christmas tree.

3)  When I was very young, my sister and I burned 14-17 holes in the carpet of our play room ( I don’t remember the spanking! ).

4)  I play “Words With Friends” (like Scrabble) on Facebook and play about 14-20 games at once.  If you are on FB and enjoy playing, drop me a note.  I win much more than I lose!

5)  At time of this writing, I have no grandchildren, but do have one great niece – Karlie Koontz.

6)  I have always wanted to have a lot of money, but one reason is so that I could, personally, give a away a lot of it to personal charities, tips, and so forth.

7)  One of the warehouse buildings I used to patrol as a night guard in Indianapolis is now the site of the new jail.

There you have it!  I hope you enjoy the above facts and reading a couple of the bloggers I nominated.  Have great fun!

Namaste,

Scott

An Award that Keeps me “Shining On”

I have been nominated again and I love it!   Actually, this is my second time for the award, but I do them anyway, cuz it’s just fun!!!

It’s the Shine On award.

And the rules are as follows:
1. Display the award logo on your blog.

2. Link back to the person who nominated you.

3. State 7 things about yourself.

4. Nominate 15 other bloggers for this award and link to them.

Ok, for number 1, simply click on the pic above to link back to lazylauramaisey;s blog.

Number 2 is fun.  I love stating things about myself that are not involved in a blog, just facts.

1)  When I was very little, I dressed up in fancy clothes and won a container of bubble gum / ribbon at our local fair.

2)  I studied the piano for several years when little, but, other than use it to help me sing, I didn’t do much with it later.

3)  I have double vision from my May 2010 stroke, but use part of a Magic the Gathering Trading Card to block out part of my right lens so I can see without the doubles.

4)  One of my eyes never dilates, the other is always dilated (stroke again).

5)  For many years, my heart-throb was Jessica Alba.

6)  I served as a head of jury once in Indianapolis.

7)  I have written several well-received mod programs for the video game Oblivion.  One such mod added several dozen people to the population of Tamriel and I wrote several books for use in the game.

I don’t know that I will get 15 people nominated, but here are some for you:

1)  Maggie Grace

2)  Lillie McFerrin

3)  Marina Kanavaki

4)  Mollie Player Mollie is one of my favorite people.  I have learned a great deal from  her blog.

5)  The War in My Brain

6)  Mrs. Reckless Writes

Well, that’s 6 and covers a lot of new people for me.  Please visit their blogs and read a post or two.  Who knows?  You might start following them, too!

Namaste,

Scott

Liebster

Ok, it’s awards time again! This time it’s the Liebster Award from the wonderful Laura Maisey.I know this is like the third time for me, but I do love doing this award.

First I am to tell you 11 facts about myself so here goes:

1. Most things I eat, now are low-carb and/or high-fiber foods.

2. JD Robb and Patricia Cornwell are two of my favorite living authors.

3. I used to bowl on Wii all the time and got two 300 games.

4. I own a lot of cookbooks.

5. The thing I miss the most since my stroke is playing competitive volleyball.

6. Oblivion, Skyrim, and Fallout3 are among my very favorite video games.

7.  I have written mods (modification programs) for Oblivion.

8. I love playing Euchre and Poker, but scrabble is one of my very favorites.

9.  I, currently, play between 16-20 games at one time in “Words With Friends” on Facebook.  I win about 85% of the games.

10. I have about 39,000 cards for “Magic the Gathering”.

11.   One of my very first written poems was entitled “I Love the Ocean”.  It was horrible and I don’t love the ocean.

Next I answer 11 questions posed to me by Mark (who gave them to Laura)

1. What is your earliest lingering memory?
I remember taking sis on a wagon ride outside early one morning in our pjs.

2. Is there a person from History you admire more than any other and if so, why do you admire them?
The three people I truly admire are Geo Washington Carver, Helen Keller, and Joan d’Arc.  I guess I admire them because each of them overcame great difficulties in order to succeed.

3. Do you have a hobby that is unrelated to your work? And if so, what is it?
I don’t work, as such, anymore, but my hobby would be my video games.

4. How many houses have you lived in, including your current?
5 houses, 5 apartments, and 2 dorm rooms.

5. How do you think you might fair on University Challenge?
I don’t know what that is, but, assuming it is a trivia challenge, I am terrible at general trivia for some reason.  I am smart and know all kinds of things and little details about stuff, but never the right stuff.

6. Is there another time in History you’d like to live ? When would it be and why?
I always thought I would have loved to live in the early 1800s in America, but I was sickly and would have, most likely, died young.

_
7. How long do you spend on the net per day?
I total about 12-14 hours a day now that I don’t work.  That includes Email, my Blog, reading other posts (about 22-25 a day), other articles, and playing video games, as well as just hopping around.

8. If you could run your country, what would be the first act of your Premiership?
I imagine my first act would be making enemies of the people I run with as I wouldn’t understand what I could and couldn’t do, so would do things I believe are best and I doubt they would like them.

9. Do you have a favourite record? If so, which is it?
My favorite singer is Christina Perri; however, what I love listening to the most is Celtic, light rock, and Blues.  I also love most of the oldies music like Bing and Sinatra.

10. Who has been the biggest influence on your life so far?
In all actuality, my son.  He and I have had discussions which have totally changed the way I look at things and that has caused me to continue on that path.

11. Why do you blog?
I love the writing and sharing what I know.  It is fun to put a different spin on things when I can and see how people react to them.  I love the atmosphere that most of the bloggers on WP give out.

I am now supposed to put on 15, I believe, bloggers who I will nominate.  This is too many when it is my third time.  So, what I am going to do is to nominate a few of those people I have started following in the last few months.  You should check them out.  I will start nominating the regulars soon enough.

1)  Let Live in Practices

2)  The War in My Brain

3)  Mrs. Reckless Writes

That’s all I am going to do.  These three are fun to read and informative.  Number 3 is 17 years old and I don’t think we read enough of our younger writers (well, I don’t).

Namaste,

Scott

Super Sweet! – Me?

John W. Howell has nominated me for the Super Sweet Award.  I have been nominated once and carry the icon on my left side section, but it is always special, I think, to be nominated for an award.  It shows that what I am doing is liked by others and that they took time out of their busy schedules to think of me.

The Rules:

  • Thank the Super Sweet Blogger that nominated you. (Thank you John)
  • Answer five Super Sweet questions. (see below)
  • Include the Super Sweet Blogging award image in your blog post. (Okay, Here you go.)
  • Nominate a baker’s dozen (13) other bloggers. (I did 4)
  • Notify your nominees on their blog.(Did)

The 5 Super Sweet Questions: (and, my answers)

  1. Cookies or Cake?  I can’t have either on any type of regular basis; however, I can have cookies once in a while if I am careful about the carbs.
  2. Chocolate or Vanilla? I agree with John – chocolate is a food group.
  3. Favorite Sweet Treat? My favorite sweet treat has changed since my diagnosis with Diabetes.  Now, I love Bryer’s high-fiber chocolate ice cream.  It is low in carbs, tastes good, and allows me ice cream!  Let’s not confuse this with a Dairy Queen Large Chocolate Malt which I adore, but can no longer have.
  4. When do you crave sweet things the most? Is there a time when I wouldn’t?
  5. Sweet Nick Name? “Different” – “You certainly are ‘different’.” They usually mean it in a nice way!

I am not going to come up with more than a few people to nominate for an award I have already been nominated for, but, I think I will take John’s idea and nominate those people whose posts generally have me going, “Oh, wow! That’s certainly different! – sweet!”

1) Mollie Player – Keeps my belief in the power of affirmation strong!

2) Renee – Her posts are often heated and not for the young, but wow!

3)  Becca – Her blog says that it is PG-13 on it, so don’t say I didn’t tell you – but she makes me laugh.

4) I think in comics – This wonderful young lady has always been able to make me smile with her comics.  I suggest some directions and she tolerates me for them.

Okay, that’s it!  As always, accept the nominations if you wish and all remember that I can’t nominate everyone, but I love you all.

Namaste,

Scott

Let the Trumpets Sound…It’s Award Time!

wordpress-family-award

I feel so touched by being nominated for this award from Hope* the Happy Hugger.

I do have a technical question:  I have put my blog awards on my left sidebar.  Some of them don’t fit.  I know there is a way…do you know what I am doing wrong?

The rules are as follows:

1. Display the award logo on your blog.

2. Link back to the person who nominated you.

3. Nominate 10 others you see as having an impact on your WordPress experience and family

4. Let your 10 Family members know you have awarded them

5. That is it. Just please pick 10 people who have taken you as  a friend, and spread the love.

Now, I am no different from anyone else.  I have more than 10 friends here and will find it difficult to choose.  If I don’t choose you, please don’t think that means we aren’t friends and/or that I don’t love you intensely.  You are each and every one special and I doubt you know how much you enrich my life each time I read a post or a comment.  I do this to share in this wonderful community.  That being said, there are those of you who have expressed some desire not to be given awards; I will try to honor that, was well.

Here is my list:

1)  Becki Duckworth

2)  Debra Kristi

3) Renee

4)  Becca

5) Marisa D. Lyon

6)  Heather Krulewski

7)  Behind the Mask of Abuse

8)  Katrina Perkins

9)  Who is Bert

10) Blessed with a Star on the Forehead

Thank you all!

Namaste,

Scott
