Two Nice Awards – One New and One Old

So, yesterday, the wonderful and absolutely beautiful KZ nominated me for two awards.  the “ABC” Award and the “Dragon Loyalty” Award.  Since the second award is already two awards and since I am the one to kinda “accidentally” name the award –> see post  <– I will do what is required for the first one and link back to KZ’s blog for the second.  My nominations will be for the ABC award, but if you want to accept the Dragon’s Loyalty Award too, then that’s fine.  I will post the rules for both.

As always, if you don’t do awards, or don’t have the time to accept it, then that is up to you.

Here is the pic for the ABC award:

Thank you KZ!

For this award, you have to come up with a word for each letter of the alphabet and write about something relevant to you. So here’s my A-Z of words that describe or mean something to me ^^

A – Alone:  Since my stroke I have learned to be more alone with myself and to enjoy the time.

B – Books:  Books have been a godsend to me my entire life.  I love to read and am getting back to that idea with nightly readings now.

C – Creativity:  Creativity has always been my greatest asset and, now, since the stroke, I realize that I have lost a little of my Creative Imagination.  It saddens me as I use it so much.

D – Diabetes:  This disease has changed my life so drastically and was one of the biggest reasons for my stroke in May 2010.

E – Email:  A life saver for me in that it has allowed me to get messages to my friends and family quickly, easily, and thoroughly.

F – Future:  I don’t live there anymore, but I think about it and, now, look very forward to it.

G – Giving:  I not only try to do this much more often, but I am the recipient of it now a lot and I have learned to accept it graciously and with joy.

H – Honesty:  I have found this to be the best way to make friends as well as to keep them.

I – Integrity:  As with honesty, this produces good friends and keeps me out of a lot of trouble.

J – Jealousy:  I lost a lot of things with my stroke.  Jealousy seems to be one of them as I don’t feel that way many of the times when I would have before.  I am told that means my self-esteem is higher.

K – Kindness:  This trait I look for in people and try hard to display it myself.

L – Love:  The most important thing in the world.  It comes in all shapes, sizes, and descriptions.  Love of God and love by God is extremely important to me.

M – Memory:  It has slipped a bit in me since the stroke and it often picks bad times to leave for awhile.  Since I know it leaves often, I miss it and think of it more now.

N – Normal:  I am learning now what that term means.  I have never felt normal.  Now, in many ways, I do, and it is a very new experience.

O – Optimism:  The backbone of my beliefs.  I believe God is always with us, so things will always work out.

P – PC:  Especially since my stroke, my computer has become the most important tool in my home.  It connects me to the world and gives me so much freedom to see things I might never have a chance to.

Q – Quality:  I look more for quality in life now than any other single thing.  Before I was mostly just busy, always trying to get ready for what’s coming.  I am more about living in the moment now and knowing the future’s coming.

R – Relax:  Not just resting, relaxation is allowing your body to throw off tensions and stress so that you can renew and handle what’s around the corner.

S – Self:  Me, just me, I need to and have learned to see me as an entity.  I love me.  This allows me to grow.

T – Texting:  This has increased immensely in my life in the last couple of years.  I text a few friends as well as my daughter.

U – Unaware:  This has become really important in my life as, since the stroke, I need to try and know what’s coming all the time so I can prepare for it.

V – Variety:  My new diet (diabetes) has made variety difficult.  However, I am managing, one item at a time, to increase the different things I eat.

W – WordPress:  I don’t think I need to say why this word is so important to me.

X – Xi:  I don’t even know what it means, but it’s important because of how often I use it in “Playing with Words” (Zynga.com).

Y – You:  All of you who follow, comment, read, share my thoughts on WordPress.  You are all important to me.

Z – Zealous: Because it is the way I feel right now about my being published and my daily posts on WordPress.

Dragon's+Loyalty+Award

One of the rules for this award is to list 7 things about yourself.  I love doing that.  The other is to nominate 15 people.  I have just done 5 this time around.
My List:

1) I have 3 packages of comic books that I have not opened yet.  I have so much to read!

2)  I have well over 500 DVDs and 3x that many books.

3)  One of my very favorite video games is Oblivion, though Minecraft is pushing a close 2nd right now.

4)  One of my favorite meals is:  3 hot dogs (plain), a small carton of high fiber cottage cheese, and 2 cups of high fiber ice cream.  It stays within my carb limits and it is better for me than a fast food meal.

5)  My sister and I got in trouble when I was about 5 yrs old, on Easter morning, because I took her outside and pulled her around in the wagon.  2 reasons – we weren’t to be outside alone and the grass was wet and it soaked our PJs.

6)  Sis and I set our family room carpet on fire several times (the same time) when we were fairly young.  I don’t remember the paddling!

7)  I started out in college to study the ministry of the United Methodist Church.

My nominees for both awards:

Zoe

Madison Woods

Debra Kristi

Boomie Bol

I am just a Poet

I think that is enough this time around.  I love all of you and have problems deciding who to choose – but that is a good problem to have!

Namaste,

Scott

I Would Like to Thank…

***OOOh!  Gotta say it!  My story (included in “The Dead Sea” anthology is now on Amazon.  It is or will be on Kindle very soon!) at http://www.amazon.com/dp/1478310596 . Okay, done.

_____________________________

I was given nomination for two awards by Ruby, for the Very Inspiring Blogger and the Versatile Blogger. I passed the torch on to the very lovely and talented Katrina Perkins who gave it to John W Howell.  He, then, gave it back to me.  No Problem!  I enjoy this very much.

The rules that need to be followed are:

  1. Display the Award Certificate on your website

  2. Announce your win with a post and link to whoever presented your award

  3. Present 15 awards to deserving bloggers

  4. Drop them a comment to tip them off after you’ve linked them in the post

  5. Post 7 interesting things about yourself.

Since I have already been nominated for each of the awards, I will nominate as many new people as I can, but I may not hit the 15 mark. JMMcDowell mentioned that often combining awards is the way to go.  I can’t take any credit for that as Ruby sent the combination to me.  As for the wonderful pic of the “Dragon Loyalty Award” that needs some explaining.  I enjoy starting my posts with a pic.  I looked up awards on Google and enjoyed this one.  So, I just wanted to clarify that I really didn’t mean for it to become a new award!  However, let me give it fair credit as the pick came from:  Parajunkee  .  Now, if it is legal and all to continue passing the picture, I love it.  I would ask that you embed or give the credit mentioned above.  There, I think we have covered the basis.

Now for number 5 – the 7 more interesting things about me:

1)  On my European concert tour with Sounds of Hope in 1976, I was in England and they had dumpling balls of some sort.  I popped one in my mouth and bit, only to find that the center was almost boiling.  It put a large blister on the roof of my mouth!

2) I once was playing a round of golf and a worm deflected my ball on a long putt.  It was going to be in, too!

3)  My favorite colors used to be midnight blue, but in the last few years, it has changed to powder blue.  I also have gained an intense like for earth tones.

4) I was in the restroom at work once when the Halon (fire extinguishing equipment) was set off in our computer room.  The equipment was located in a space next to the bathroom.  The noise was so loud…well, I am glad I was already sitting.

5) Twice in my life, as a security guard at two different companies, I tripped and nearly fell off the roof of 8 story buildings.

6) One of my dreams growing up was to attend a John Denver concert.  Sadly, his death came before my dream was realized.

7) I was, once, instrumental in bringing a theft ring to justice.

The nominees for the two awards are: (loud drum roll with full orchestral accompaniment)

1) Rian at Truthandcake – Truth be told, Rian was one of the very first bloggers I followed.  I read her on “Freshly Pressed” and really liked what she had to say.

2) Soma  – Soma has been extremely busy lately, so I don’t know if she will be able to accept this, but I wanted to send it anyway as she has always been able to make me smile.

3) Mollie Player – Mollie has become, at least to me, one of my better friends here on WordPress.  Her devotion to her stories and books keep me reading and enjoying her blog.  We share a lot of beliefs in the positive and in visualization and creating what you choose in your life.

4) JMMcDowell – Whether it is through her character, Meghan Bode, and the in post mysteries she presents or through her up-and-coming books, JMMcDowell is a joy to read and to follow.

5) Susie Lindau –  Susie is a hoot!  I laugh repeatedly when I read her posts.

6) Magsx2 – Margaret is another blogger who I haven’t heard from in awhile.  I know she is busy, so she may not be able to accept this award either, but I had to try!

7) PFPT (Pretty Feet, Pop Toe) – This young lady has been a favorite of mine for quite awhile!  As you can see by the post I am directing you to here, she has quite a biting sense of humor.

8) Buckwheatsrisk – Zoe is a great blog-friend of mine.  We have hit it off very well and, often, hold short conversations in our comments.  Her blog is important as it covers the nature of parental abuse and the consequences on the children.

I know that I only did 8 of 15, but, to tell you the truth, I am to the point that I may be nominating people I have just nominated.  So, to give them a break (and me) I will stop.

If you aren’t in the list above, just know that I thought of all of you.

If you are, don’t feel obligated to accept.  If you have won before, so what?  I did, too.  If you don’t know 15 blogs to nominate, you have two choices – nominate who you do know, or follow some more.  The other 14 above would be good choices 🙂

Please visit the blogs that aren’t yours and enjoy.  Following them wouldn’t be a bad idea!

Namaste,

Scott

And the Nominees are…

Nah, not this award, but it’s a great picture!

I was given nomination for two awards by Ruby, for the Very Inspiring Blogger and the Versatile Blogger.  I happily accept both.  It is my second time around for the Versatile Blogger.  The rules, I believe, have been combined and are as follows:

The rules that need to be followed are:

  1. Display the Award Certificate on your website

  2. Announce your win with a post and link to whoever presented your award

  3. Present 15 awards to deserving bloggers

  4. Drop them a comment to tip them off after you’ve linked them in the post

  5. Post 7 interesting things about yourself.

The two awards are now on my posting page.  The second one goes to Ruby if you click on it.  I left the first one still pointing to the person who nominated me the first time.

That also took care of number two.  To visit Ruby, just click on the second award pic.

Three and four are handled below.

Now for number 5 – the 7 interesting things about me:

1)  Mom and Dad were deciding between Scott and Mickey for my name before I was born.

2)  I lettered twice in Golf in High School, was team captain, and most valuable player.

3)  I had an outdoor cat which would wake me up each morning when I was in school.  One day he stepped in my mouth as I yawned.

5)  I wrote one of my first poems back in grade school.  It was titled “I Love the Ocean”.  It was a horrible little poem and…I don’t like the ocean.

6)  For many years, my favorite actress was Jessica Alba.

7)  I played “Magic the Gathering” for many years and still have over 39,000 cards.

The nominees for the two awards are: (loud drum roll with full orchestral accompaniment)

3) Katrina Perkins

4) My Mending Wall

5) One Thousand Single Days

6) This, That, and the Other Thing

13) Wakeupandsmellthereality

If you aren’t in the list above, just know that I was told to limit it to 15 and I thought of all of you.

If you are, don’t feel obligated to accept.  If you have won before, so what?  I did, too.  If you don’t know 15 blogs to nominate, you have two choices – nominate who you do know, or follow some more.  The other 14 above would be good choices 🙂

Please visit the 14 or 15 blogs that aren’t yours and enjoy.  Following them wouldn’t be a bad idea!

Namaste,

Scott

Nomination Time!!!

Well, Hope the Happy Hugger nominated “You!” for the xxxxxx award, so I decided that I was a “you!” and am accepting.  Rules are pretty simple:

1)  Tell something about yourself.

2) Nominate others.

1)  Something about myself:  My favorite type of movie is the “Armageddon” type movies.  I enjoy the “after it is done, mankind is fighting to stay alive” things.  This works out well as many of these movies feature Zombies.  “The Walking Dead” is a great example of this.  However, movies such as “Tooth and Nail” are also great.

2) I think this time I will nominate several of my newest followers:

Through My Hearts

Green Tea and Velociraptors

Bookendings

Tadalena

Driversprovided

Okay, please check out these people and, again, thanks to Hope, the Happy Hugger for nominating me!

Namaste,

Scott

Reality Bites, um Bits…

On January 28, 4amwriter, nominated me for an award.  The “Reality Blog Award”.  This simply made my week.  It has been a rough week, made especially bad by my injury to my neck and shoulder.  This has resulted in pain ranging from a 10 Sunday night to a 5-6 on Wednesday while I am writing this.  It stemmed from sleeping on the couch while I was sick a week ago Sunday and made worse by my putting heat on it instead of ice (yeah – idiot).  My hope is that a second trip to the Chiropractor will take care of it and I will be okay by Saturday.

Regardless, this award is wonderful and I am so happy.  Thank you k.johnston!!!

It goes like this:  I am to answer 5 pretty serious questions and then I will choose 5 more nominees.

The Icon:

The questions:

1) If you could change something what would you change?  The day I injured myself playing basketball with my students.

2) If you could relive one day, when would that be? The day I asked my second wife to marry me.

3) What one thing really scares you? That I might get Alzheimer’s and stop remembering things (tie with “go blind”).

4) What one dream have you not completed yet and do you think you will be able to complete it? I know it sounds petty, but I would love to be independently wealthy.  It is still my hope to complete it with God’s help (there are just so many things I want to do and places to go).

5) If you could be someone else for the day, who would you be? A woman, just so I could understand better how it feels and how they think.

My nominees:

1) Behind the Mask of Abuse

2) Rich

3) Swirling Turnip

4) Blessed with a Star on the Forehead

5) Mullberry Whine

Namaste,

Scott
