An End to Another Beginning

I was reviewing the email articles that Digg sends me frequently.  There are always some very interesting ones and I pour over them when I have some time.

This morning one of the articles concerned  a man, Charles Ramsey, who saw a woman in a neighboring home trying to get his attention.  When he went to check it out, she wanted him to let her out.  The problem became that the door would not open more than a few inches.  He kicked the door out and the woman, Amanda Berry, ran from the house.  She stated she had been kidnapped and held in the house for over ten years.

If you think that is fascinating, get this:  police were called and told there were more women in the home.  In all, three women were rescued along with a little girl.  Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight were saved along with, I believe, the daughter of one of the three women.  There will be more as police sort this one out.

The clips below are the more interesting ones that I found.  Amanda and Gina got most of the attention.  They were near celebrity status in their abductions.  I vaguely recall them way back a decade ago, more or less.  Michelle, it seems, was not looked for much by other than her mother because everyone thought she left on her own due to some family problems.

The 911 call, by itself, is pretty funny.  Charles Ramsey is so excited and trying to talk to a 911 operator who sounds like he could care less.  This clip has some language.  Mr. Ramsey does get somewhat carried away.   That should be expected:  he just became a hero and didn’t know it yet.

It bothers me, but doesn’t surprise me much, that the 3 men taken into custody were able to keep 3 women prisoners for over a decade in a house that was in the women’s own neighborhood and one that was full of houses and people.  Mr. Ramsey says he had barbeque with one of the kidnappers.  This kidnapper was, apparently, able to keep the house dark, and appear pretty normal, otherwise.

I won’t go into all the details past this.  The six clips/articles pretty well tell you all that is known at the moment, detailing what I have said above.  All in all, it is a pretty amazing thing and I am so happy that the women were able to pull out of this and rejoin regular society.  But, what happens now?  How are people supposed to just get back to life when at least a third of that life has been as a prisoner?  What are they to do?  How are their families supposed to act and to help?

What would you do?
