Friday Fictioneer’s – Life’s Cycle

From the prompt offered by Ted Strutz on the page of Rochelle, it is Friday Fictioneers.  100 words or less to make a complete beginning, middle, and end to a story or well-crafted thought.  Click here to view more stories or to join the group.

Here is my offering:

Life’s Cycle

He covered the hubcap with a dartboard.  Then, the neighborhood kids and even from farther out came to try and score.
For $1 you got to throw 3 darts from 10ft.  if any stuck and remained in the bullseye, the participant received a new, freshly-painted bicycle on display.  It was estimated that in the first two weeks, he gave away 3 bicycles and made over $400, a decent profit.
It all ended the day a kid from another town stopped by and saw his bike on display, the initials and phone number carved under the seat where he put it.

Word Count:  100 words

Room with a Memory

By Scott L Vannatter – 100 Words

The room or, what was left of it, had been decorated.  The characters, cartoons nearly imbedded into the wall, were funny without having that scariness most cartoons have.  I had helped pick them out; now, they would be a legacy of sorts.

I had begun the tearing process.  Funny how tear and tear could work so well together.  My drops of wetness poured onto the very walls that used to make me happy.  Now, the dampness on one board would be encased in glass so I would never (as if I could) forget.

Baby and Mommy hit by a drunk.

Head of the Class

By Scott L Vannatter – 100 words

“So, I still don’t understand,” Jerome looked with puzzlement at Sally.  Both were standing in the archway looking at the statue of a Greek’s head that adorned the top.

“It’s simple, Sweetie.  In 212 BC, Clemetis was accused and convicted of lying to the counsel about his involvement in the overthrowing of the city.  They decided to punish him by decapitating him and lording it over the people.”

“So they created this head statue and hung it in the arch to represent his punishment to all the people?”

“Um, Represent? Uh, no…”

“You mean…”  He was talking to her nod.

Hyped Up

By Scott L Vannatter – 100 Words

The professor looked into the small pond.  He then turned to address his students.

“2054, Metasa, Inc. began making the hormones now used all over the world to help combat the plague.  The virus remains, its 98% fatality rate held in check by the weekly consumption of the hormone.   The by-products of the process have had unforeseeable side effects until now.”

“Professor Dillon?  How do we know about these side effects now?”

Professor Dillon took out a pin and pricked his finger.  The drop of blood fell into the pond and the Koi went feverish attacking it.

“Because it’s begun.”
