Knowledge is power!
@SVBookman 158 words

She stepped forward and pointed the small collection device at the construction of the new security data center.  Anonymity was paramount to her mission, so she had dressed as closely as she could to the native women.  She was hot and hated covering her face.  Still, it was necessary to remain hidden.

The small “click” made by her hand-held analytical-diffuser was custom-made to sound like a cell phone. What was not seen nor heard was the short burst of xenox rays.  The rays would completely pass through objects and simultaneously sent info back so a duplicate of the structure and all items inside and outside for up to 100 meters could be made.

Having the objects added to their race’s knowledge which their computers, in turn, would convert to pure energy to run their ships and, ultimately, their cities.  Soon they would have enough power to take off this cursed world and revive their entire race at home.

“What’s a wasp, Mommy?” Gena asked.

The museum’s picture of a nest was before them.

“It was an insect that made those nests in trees and people’s homes.

Gena scrunched her nose and sighed slightly.  Kay could see her little brain working feverishly with the information.

“ ‘K, so what’s an insect and a tree?”

Kay walked her daughter to a nearby cushioned seat.  This was going to be a long one.

“An insect was a small creature, usually with wings, and a tree was a large plant made of wood.”

The scrunch again.

“Mommy?”

Kay sighed first, this time.

Friday Fictioneers Photo Prompt for 1/25/2013:

“Walkway to Wonder”

January 22, 2013:  Jordan stepped onto the bridge and crept toward the halo marking the midpoint.  When there, he took off his snowy gloves to “touch” the halo.  No sensation.  Glove in hand, he made his decision and strode strongly into the colorful aperture.

As Jordan stepped out into paradise, his first thoughts embarrassed him.  He looked at the beautiful palm trees, the blue ocean, and the nearly cloudless sky and could not help but see the T-shirt he had bought once.  Stated on the front:

“Hate Oz.

Hate you, too.

Took the Shoes. Find your own way home.

Toto”
