“They Come Back”

Scott L Vannatter – February 17, 2015

Carol sat in the old, rickety rocking chair, silent and still, looking out the open window, the breeze from the afternoon shower still hanging.

She thought about the old woman, the pact, the ingredients (looking at her still-bleeding hand), and the coming results – and she shuddered while smiling.

She had loved grandmother so much, grandfather only slightly less; both had been her world.

That world had shattered with the lightning strike on the barn while the two were tending the horses; snuffed out when the fire was over.

Now, she looked as two dark figures staggered slowly and unsteadily across the open field, and she wished her deal was broken.

Trust

“All’s Fair”

By Scott L Vannatter – December 7, 2014

Sandra watched as Joel left Michelle and walked into his apartment; she especially watched how he looked at Michelle as they kissed goodbye.

She wanted that affection so very much and was willing to take…every step necessary.

Sandra opened the canister she had purchased from Gilda and removed a large chunk of the ill-smelling creme so she could mix it with the hairs she had “borrowed” from Sandra’s comb.

Rubbing the awful mix into a lotion-like substance, Sandra rubbed it all over her hands, face, hair, and even under her clothing, feeling a definite tingle throughout the process.

Standing behind the corner of a building, she changed clothing into something she had again “borrowed” at Michelle’s and walked toward the apartment building as a “new” woman.

Five Sentence Fiction – Envy – The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly – Rated PG13

Five Sentence Fiction – hosted by Lillie – My story after the pic – prompt is Envy – All rest entries are > HERE < Enjoy!!!

Envy

“The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly”

By Scott L Vannatter – November 7, 2014

Sharon watched as Sam kissed Maggie right in front of her.

At that moment, Sharon hated both Maggie and Sam, even though they were all under six years old; jealousy and envy are very closely related at that age.

Sharon ran off into the woods to her favorite tree, the one with the big thick bark and the wise old owl who often talked to her at times like these.

After listening to the owl for over an hour, Sharon had that smile that looks good to adults, but, in reality, should be feared utterly.

Neither Maggie nor Sam were ever seen again, but Sharon was allowed to keep the two toads she found as pets to help her through her tough time.
