Well, I have made a decision. Thanks to several posts by the amazing Laura Maisey, I have decided to “go green” and help the world. Being stuck mostly at home and not being able to work should have little bearing on this endeavor. I have come up with a dozen worthy efforts which you, too, could easily accomplish:
.
1) Giving money to charity – yourself : we waste so much money on things that take money just to pay the people to start the process. I know that every penny that goes to me will be used by me.
2) Go green -um brown – reuse toilet paper: This one took some consideration and some small sacrifices will need to be made. The largest being that I will not use nasal spray for the first month.
.
3) Boycott – “toys r us”: I will refuse to go there to buy any toys or games. Of course, there’s no real good reason for that as I don’t go there anyway. However, whatever monies are saved will go to charity (see number 1 above).
4) Cut corners – bin hopping: There are wonderful bargains to be found in garbage bins. I would say that items such as number 2 above would be abundant. Perhaps, old bottles of nasal spray so I could save up for when number 2 is no longer a problem.
.
5) Reuse computer files (ie word : New Document (1) ): Think of it! Don’t waste all that space naming files. They can all be called “New Document”. The computer even puts the number in ( ), so you know how many you have.
6) CDs as coasters, Frisbees, and model car tires: My computer ruins a lot of my CDs and some of them come out of the pack bad. How cool would it be to get to use them for other things? I am sure there are lots more uses!
7) Create own icemaker : I realized that in your freezer you have a great big square space that most people don’t use all of. Just fill as much as you like with water and freeze it. You can store your meats and stuff on top; just move them and chip away when you need the ice.
.
8) Rewatch movies: Don’t watch movies once anymore. Watch them at least twice so that they aren’t wasted on those single views. Make sure you do this with online streaming ones too.
9) save on bath water: I realized how much water we waste on baths and showers. Just take a shower or bath with the drain plugged. Then, the next day, reuse the water. If that idea just freaks you out, fine, let the kids use it the second day.
10) Solar battery for cell phone: This will sweep the nation. You just buy one of those solar batteries and strap it to your back. It will let you use your cell phone all day and the phone will be charged at sundown, so it should be good for the night, too!
.
11) Hybrid car – I figured it out and if I buy a good hybrid car, it should save me around $500-750 a year in gas, maybe more for others. So, then, if I do that instead of the little car I have, it will only take about 26 years of driving for me to break even on the cost.
.
12) Don’t waste space on Friday Fictioneers: Finally, Friday Fictioneers has become an important part of my writing week. The 100 word limit is a good one, so, just think how much space I will save on my computer if I use 99 words instead!
Yes, I am very excited about all these upcoming changes. I hope you can add to this list and do your own part to help the world “go green.”
Namaste,
Scott

Scott… I, of course, would add eating organic foods to your list not only for the health of our bodies, but our planet as well. Thank you for the list of suggestions… So glad you’re making safer, smarter Eco-friendly choices!!

Scott… I really love this! I, of course, would have added the importance of eating organic foods not only for our bodies, but for a greener planet also (I’ve been preaching this for years, huh?!) There are very few things we can do that carry more importance. Thanks for the list of suggestions! So glad to see you’re making some changes toward Eco-friendly living 🙂

You can recharge your laptop by lightning. Just put one of these concrete irons on top of the building, and lead it to your charger …. you’ll get Tesla experiences in the entire building + a source if heat in winter when the charger melts.
