The Storms of Life (and others)

This has been a very interesting day.
It began normal enough. I checked email, then my blog, then the fun began. I had 3 Amazon packages to wrap for items I sold for the local library. I procrastinated (as usual) and finished wrapping at 3:15pm (post office closes at 4). I left for the post office, arrived, and began mailing the packages.

At 3:45PM, a huge storm passed through with tremendous wind, hail, rain, and lightning. It lasted about 30-60 minutes. During this time, the electricity dropped (of course, right when the postal clerk was running my payment through. I ended up digging up enough cash so that they were paid for and sent. However, I could not locate the tracking numbers in the system (we will see tomorrow) (ie- Items were there the next morning).

When I got home, the electricity was out and did not come on for about 8 hours. I gave up at 10:30pm and went to bed. I was awakened with the electricity restored and the lights, A/C, and fans came back on. So, I sat to write about my day and the fact that tomorrow might be absolutely miserable in some respects.

I will be gone all day Saturday, so I am up polishing this post so I can schedule it and you can all laugh a bit at my misfortune (please laugh, I am).

I will end this with a few storm pics (not the one I was in). Storms come in many ways – some are just storms of life.  We don’t always handle the storms in the best way.  Just like you shut your house up to keep the rain out, we often shut up our lives to keep out whatever it was that hurt us (or that we thought would hurt us).  That’s well and fine; however, when the storm passes, we open the house back up and let the air and sun back in.  Too many people do not do that with their lives.  They remain shut up and blocked off from life.  I used to do that.  It is so wonderful to have reached the place in which I can set the fears aside and enjoy life.  I have found that, more often than not, the fear was far worse than the reality; and, in all cases, God and I have handled it.

Regular storms pale compared to the storms of life.

Have you ever had a “storm of life”? Let me know!

Namaste,
Scott

Hi, you take things very positively. I liked the attitude ‘ when the storm passes, we open the house back up and let the air and sun back ‘.

You are right fear is always worse then reality. At least with storms you can close your house until they pass but in life you have to face storm and find solution. Blogging has made so many friends to share with your experiences.

Great analogy. I think blogging helps me not stay shut out from the world when the storms come. 🙂 Sam

I totally agree there. This is a very special community and, unless you are a part of it, I doubt it can be understood well.

I read lots of books, from mythology retellings to literary fiction and I love to reread books from childhood, this is a place to voice my thoughts for fun. I also like to ramble about things such as art or nature every now and again.
