Hey, Norima! How you doin’?
“I’m fine, James. but I thought you took that job at the cemetery to make extra money?”
“I did. It’s to mow the grass around the graves by 4pm every Saturday.”
“It’s 2:30 now. Are you done already?”
“No, but farmer Nickols sold me his goat. I tied it to a tree at the cemetery and it’s had nearly 4 hours to roam and eat the grass.”
“James! It’s sheep that eat all that grass. Goats eat tin cans and such.”
James began a heavy run toward the cemetery. He shouted over his shoulder,
“Fired! First Day!”

*I remember this prompt and the direction I took it in. Thought it was time for a non-violent change!

See what happens when you try to pass on the job? Fun take, Scott.

I have to admit, I, occasionally, have tried similar stunts, to similar ends.

This reminds me a bit of Tom Sawyer – not sure why. Fun story.

Tom and the picket fence? or was that just Huckleberry Finn?

Funny, Scott. Poor guy thought he’d had a genius idea 🙂

Isn’t that the way most “genius” ideas are?

Why is James fired? Does goat not eat grass? What is meant by goats eating tin?

I have always been told that goats will eat anything, including tin cans. However, they don’t eat as fast on grass as sheep do. Thus, he didn’t get his mowing done on time and was fired.

Tin can eating is difficult to believe based on digestive system biology.

I did look it up and, while it is somewhat undetermined if they will actually eat such things, they nibble on everything, I am guessing to check it out.

Again, the lookup stated that it is undetermined if the goat would actually eat tin, however, they are likely to chew on it, therefore, looking like they are eating it.

Dear Scott,
Perhaps James should’ve just used a lawnmower. 😉 Nicely done. And nice to see you back.

Had quite a time getting the story on the site. I think it will be easier next time.

Laughing.
Goats are somewhat unpredictable beasts, but they do eat grass.
And everything else.

bet they can’t clear ground like a sheep, though.

I think that goats might eat the plastic flowers on the graves as well.

Oops … picked the wrong animal. Maybe he should have just mowed the grass? Nicely written story.

Goats WILL eat just about anything (like my math homework, in times long passed …) but I donnow about tin-cans. So I think perhaps not fired after all … 😉

I have been told about the tin cans, but never actually seen it; however, they can’t clear out a yard like sheep do. Sheep eat grass almost to the ground.

Goats are good ‘cleaners’ too, though I do hear a little less brutal on the vegetation, which sometimes if preferred, sometimes not. 🙂
