It’s once again time for Friday Fictioneers, hosted by RochelleW. A full story in 100 words (more or less) is to be based on the picture prompt below. After reading my entry, click > HERE < for the rest. Enjoy!
Keeping Watch
By Scott L Vannatter
100 Words
Carolyn had moved from the restaurant. It had gotten bad; she had barely escaped. Now located in an abandoned hospital, she sits beside a window overlooking the parking lot. Another night, another perch; she waits.
The Eaters, brain dead sons-of-bitches, would be ruling the streets in another hour. She was not certain why they were not out as much in daylight, but it made her travels a bit easier.
She hunkers down, watching more intently as the twilight darkens. At the far end of the lot, she sees movement. Her brain jerks. Her thoughts catch. “Is that a man sneaking?”

The best thing to be in these circumstances is inedible. Very suspenseful tale, well episode. But haven’t time to read the prequel. 🙂

an ending that makes one look up and say “uh oh!” but maybe a good reason. well done. as for “twilight darkens…” isn’t twilight dark all the time? maybe something like “twilight approaches…” just a thought, but i do not envy this woman, and the man even less. good luck to both of them.

Yes, correct on the darkened twilight thing. I really meant something like “as twilight darkened into night” but oh well.
And, I have started a long version of this story and will start posting sections on Wed. Hope to hear your input.
