Thoughts of a Brighter Day
By Scott L Vannatter – 100 words
Carolyn stepped into the foyer. She peered through the stained-glass ornament hanging on the door’s window. It was a porpoise swimming in the sea. She could look through it and see the beautiful house across the way and the bright sunlight shining on everything. If she stopped a moment and ignored her brain, she could remember what it had been like before Hell Day, before “they” had come along.
“Stupid chicken,” she thought referring to the virus in the hormone-soaked meat that had started it all.
She decided here was a good a place as any for the night’s survival.

Dear Scott,
As long as your 100 word pieces stand on their own…which they do…I can hang with Carolyn. 😉

No worries, Scott—you’ve got a strong character and story going here. This is definitely one to consider for publication.

I’m really enjoying reading about Carolyn, Scott. You’ve conveyed so much about her character and history in a short space of time that makes me want to follow her journey. For me, what really counts in good horror is the journey of the characters and I already care about what happens to Carolyn. Looking forward to reading more.

Wow! I wish you could know what that does to me. I am stoked now. I had been going back and forth trying to decide if she was worth a really long read. I think now that a version of the story after this short-long version would be to put all the stories together, lengthen them into a novella and then twist whatever ending I come up with.

I’d love to read a novella version of her story – look forward to it!

Quite an achievement to get a post-apocalyptic story out of this prompt. Well done.
