And Here Lives the Past

To the untrained eye, the small stalks with fibrous umbrellas at the top really looked like simple mushrooms. Jordan, however, did not have untrained eyes. Her abilities as a xeno-anthropologist told her that these were alien spores…old alien sports.

She knelt down, quickly and carefully dug up all the spores, and stored them in a traveling box. She took them home and replanted them carefully under her strictest guidelines.

She painstakingly watched them grow to be almost six-feet tall before they shed their roots and stepped forward. Jordan was so happy she had been able to save her cousins’ lives.

“Crystal Clear Reckoning”

Jonah looked at the beautiful clear spikes behind the glass. They appeared “alive” – a thought which was held to be real after reading the inscription below the case telling how they were found on the outside of a fallen cable satellite a few weeks ago and had increased about one-third in that time. No one knew what they fed on or how big they would become. And science was not concerned, just excited, about it.

Jonah saw the spikes poking through the bottom of the case. He knelt and saw them sticking into the ground. Just how big, he wondered?

The Vision

Timeris sat on the old wooden rocker at the pine table on the front porch of his new home. He rocked slowly back and forth. No hurry. Just watching.

The front door across the street was open again. Timeris mentally ticked off the time. This was the fourth time this week the widow had left her front door open. Seven minutes each time. Almost like clockwork.

“I will have to visit Mrs. Appleton soon about this time. Yes, I think I really should make that a point.”

He thought of the fun they could have, well him, she’d be dead.

“A-Maze-Ing”

The whole thing is: it’s not very funny.

Oh, you might think so, what with everyone laughing so hard.

Everyone, that is, but Tommy.

He can’t help having gotten lost in the simple hedge maze for over 4 hours.

I mean it does look quite easy and the average solve time is stated at 7 minutes.

Still, it all comes down to a matter of science, well anatomy, at least.

See Tommy has a problem. He came to the maze to prove it was not a problem, but …

Ahem, Tommy, you must understand, is only three foot ten inches…

“The Third Switch”

Three little switches were on the contraption. Keith looked at the first one and flipped it.

All of the lights went out in the house. He flipped it back – nothing.

When he flipped the second switch, the lights came back on.

Smiling, he flipped the third switch and waited; nothing happened.

Scratching his head, he walked back upstairs to his wife staring out the window.

“What’s the matter, Sweetheart?”

She simply stared and began to shiver. Keith followed her finger pointing toward the large window.

New York City was dark.

Keith began to worry, perhaps, it was not just NYC.
